Cohere Acquires Cognosys — Adds “Smart Tables” to Its AI Stack

Enterprise AI firm Cohere has acquired Cognosys (formerly Ottogrid), a Vancouver-based startup that built spreadsheet-style interfaces to extract and manipulate data from documents — like having ChatGPT inside Excel.

Cognosys had raised CA$2M from top names including GV, Guillermo Rauch (Vercel), and Cohere’s founders. Its core tech will now power Cohere North, the company’s enterprise research assistant, while the standalone Ottogrid product is being shut down.

❗️ Why it matters:

Cohere is quietly becoming the B2B AI stack of choice. While rivals focus on consumer chatbots, Cohere is embedding AI into enterprise workflows — from due diligence to compliance and market research.

This comes on the heels of Cohere doubling its revenue to $100M in 2025, driven by secure, long-term deployments in finance, healthcare, and government.
